RCT Homes member elections
RCT Homes held its first ever member elections in June 2009. Nearly 30 per cent of members took part - almost as high as the local turnout for the recent European Parliament elections.
The results of the elections will be published shortly.
One of the most important reasons to become a member is that it gives tenants the right to elect Tenant Board Members and to elect an RCT Homes Members’ Forum to represent tenants’ views and work in partnership with the RCT Homes Board.
All members are able to vote in RCT Homes member elections. Already, more than 1,200 tenants have applied for membership and the number is growing every day.
As a member you can also put yourself up for election so that you can speak on behalf of your fellow tenants and help RCT Homes to make decisions affecting tenants’ homes and neighbourhoods.
Further elections to the RCT Homes Board and Members’ Forum will be held in 2010. If you would like to find out more, contact the RCT Homes Tenant Empowerment Team on FREEPHONE 0800 085 3633.
RCT Homes’ housing policies are reviewed by the Members’ Forum who also make sure that RCT Homes keeps its promises. The Board scrutinises major issues such as overall housing policy and RCT Homes’ finances.
Only members of RCT Homes can stand for election to the Members’ Forum and the RCT Homes Board so, if you would like to put yourself forward for election, you must become a member first.
By taking part in elections – simply by voting or by standing as a candidate for the Members’ Forum and Board – you can help RCT Homes to become a truly tenant-led organisation where tenants exercise genuine control over decision-making.
